Hennis-Plasschaert: The government makes plans to meet the Iraqis needs

    The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, confirmed on Tuesday that the Iraqi government is making plans to meet the needs of Iraqis and is working on a brighter future for them.


    "The local elections were made in a widely and technically peaceful manner. This was represented by another government's efforts to get out of the previous shortages episodes," said Plasschaert in a periodic briefing of the Security Council, followed by the Iraqi News Agency - INA. 


    She expressed, "The re -establishment of the local representative bodies indicates another major step forward."


    "Reforms and development are necessary to open a brighter future horizon for all Iraqis, which is what the government is working on. A future in which young people can benefit from their skills and capabilities to improve their lives and societies," she noted.


    Plasschaert stressed "the need for sustainable progress, towards real reform, and improving living standards should not decline, as the population of Iraq grows every year, and the government's plans are the key to meeting these needs."


    She concluded her speech, "In December 2018 I arrived in Baghdad, and now five years later, it is almost the time to say goodbye, and I expect to leave my position at the end of May, but it is not easy, because Iraq has simply becme part of me."


    "All Iraqis, men and women, have praised their sacrifices, strength and depth of their commitment to building a prosperous and democratic Iraq," she highlighted.
