Al-Sudani and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez Lead Bilateral Talks

    Media Office of the Prime Minister said in a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency INA that “Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani and the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, held a meeting on Thursday morning, during which they discussed cooperation relations between the two countries and ways to develop them.”
     
    It stated that “After the meeting, the two sides chaired the expanded discussions held by the delegations of the two countries, which discussed various files and endeavors to establish economic partnerships. It was agreed to initiate joint efforts to forge a strategic partnership agreement between the two countries and to resume the work of the joint committee at its 13th session in the middle of the new year.”
     
    “During the meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted promising opportunities for cooperation and partnership with the Spanish side. He discussed ways for leading Spanish companies to contribute to Development Road projects, as well as cooperation in the security, cultural, environmental, and sustainable development fields. The discussions explored the possibility of achieving economic and investment progress that benefits both friendly nations,” that statement also added.
     
    The statement indicated that “The Prime Minister affirmed Iraq's readiness to benefit from Spanish expertise in solar energy, tourism, antiquities, and addressing climate change. His Excellency noted that he had issued directives to ministries and institutions to be open to cooperation with Spanish companies in these areas.”
     
    The discussions covered according to the statement “various regional issues of mutual interest and strategies to reinforce bilateral positions amid the challenges occurring in the region.”
     
    The Prime Minister expressed in the statement “appreciation for the Spanish government's condemnation of the aggression against Gaza and its support for relief efforts for the Palestinian people. He reiterated the importance of the international community taking action to halt the serious violations occurring in the Palestinian territories.”

    It highlighted that “the Spanish Prime Minister for his part, expressed his country's desire to enhance relations with Iraq, particularly in the areas of transportation, defense, education, and efforts of addressing climate change. He also invited Iraq to join an international coalition addressing desertification and combating climate change.”
     
    “Prime Minister Sánchez praised Iraq's role in establishing security in the region and emphasized that Spanish companies are committed to serving the Iraqi government's plans. He also stated that what is happening in Palestine is a humanitarian issue, stressing the necessity of a ceasefire in Gaza, delivering humanitarian aid to the Palestinians, and working to establish a Palestinian state. His country shares the concerns and positions of the Secretary-General of the United Nations regarding the aggression in Palestine,” the statement concluded.
