National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Araji affirmed, today, Thursday, Iraq’s commitment to protecting diplomatic missions and international advisors.
A statement from the media office of the National Security Advisor, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), said, “The National Security Advisor, Qasim Al-Araji, met via television with the Assistant Secretary-General for Operations at NATO headquarters in Brussels,Thomas Goffus, in the presence of the Commander of the NATO mission in Iraq, Lieutenant General José Antonio Agüero Martínez.
The statement added, "During the meeting, ways of continuing cooperation between Iraq and the NATO mission were discussed in the fields of training and consultation.".
Al-Araji expressed, according to the statement, “Iraq’s aspiration to stop the fighting in Gaza, and he also stated Iraq’s official and popular position in condemning the targeting of civilians, women and children,” noting that “these are not part of the battle.”.
Al-Araji renewed Iraq's call on the international community to stop the fighting in the Gaza Strip and find a solution that preserves the rights of the Palestinians in their state.
The National Security Advisor, on the other hand, expressed "Iraq's keenness to continue the relationship and partnership with NATO, to benefit from the partnership and expertise in raising the capabilities of the Iraqi security forces.".
Al-Araji stressed, "Iraq's commitment to protecting diplomatic missions and international advisors," stressing "the importance of the cohesion of the international community, in order to consolidate and establish peace in the region and the world.".
For his part, Goffus expressed "the alliance's commitment to support and partnership with Iraq, and its emphasis on developing the relationship in the field of achieving long-term goals." .
The statement continued, "Goffus also offered congratulations to the government, the Iraqi people, and the political forces on the success of the provincial council elections," noting that "it will reflect on Iraq's international reputation and its active role in the region."
