The head of the Security Media Cell, Major General Tahseen Al-Khafaji, announced today, Wednesday, the imminent arrival of an advanced air defense system from South Korea to Iraq, noting that the year 2025 will witness the enhancement of Iraqi air defense capabilities with advanced weapons.
Al-Khafaji said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "There are upcoming contracts that will be implemented during this year 2025 in the fields of air defense, air force, and army aviation," stressing that "the current year will witness the arrival of advanced weapons in the field of air defense, especially from South Korea."
He added that "the new defense system, which was imported by the Ministry of Defense, will soon reach the Air Defense Command, where it will be used to deal with air targets."
Al-Khafaji pointed out that "there is a contract with France to supply multi-purpose helicopters, which will carry airborne forces, and handle targets, in addition to providing logistical support to ground forces. Advanced radars will also arrive, as the Minister of Defense indicated earlier."
Al-Khafaji praised "the great support from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, in arming and developing the Air Force, Army Aviation and Air Defense, in addition to allocating the necessary funds for this purpose."
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, confirmed earlier that the government will continue to support the Iraqi army, develop its capabilities, and equip it with the latest and most advanced weapons, while pointing out that the government has made the duty of caring for our army members a top priority.
