Interior minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari emphasized the necessity to rely on the intelligence effort in combating scourge of drugs.
A statement from the Ministry of Interior received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) said that " Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari chaired a conference at the General Directorate for Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances to listen to the monthly briefing with the attendance of its director general and a number of directors in Baghdad as well as drug control directors in the provinces."
The minister affirmed, according to the statement, the need for qualitative work and the use of modern methods in the investigation and collecting evidence, stressing the "reliance on the intelligence effort in combating the scourge of drugs to end it, calling for updating plans and regional field work, he also directed to intensify efforts to follow up drug dealers.
The minister of interior added that" work must be done to meet the challenges, especially that there is great support by the prime minister, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, as well as the Ministry of Interior for the work of the Directorate of drug control," noting "the importance of using forced sanatoriums to return addicts to their normal lives, stressing at the same time awareness and education campaigns for society in general, schools and universities in particular to publicize the seriousness of this scourge.
