Prime Minister's Advisor for pharmaceutical industry affairs Hamoudi Al-Lami confirmed on, Sunday, that Iraq is witnessing a real revolution in the production of medicines as a result of the government decisions within the project of localization of the pharmaceutical industry, and while he confirmed that 4 local companies have started producing medicines for blood diseases and cancer, he pointed to the start of the production of 22 new types of pressure and sugar drugs.
Al-Lami told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "The pharmaceutical industry project began on November 3 of last year, 4 days after the formation of the government, which reflects the interest of Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani in this file", pointing out that "this issue is of interest to the citizen through the provision of non-adulterated Medicine of high quality and the right price, as well as the country as a whole to preserve hard currency and provide job opportunities”.
Al-Lami added that " Iraq is one of the pioneers of the pharmaceutical industry in the Arab world and currently witnessing a real revolution in this field as a result of government care and continuous decisions supporting to achieve this goal" ,pointing to "local production of medicines doubled after the application of these decisions compared to last year, and we expect to achieve a breakthrough next year" ,pointing out that "health contracted last year by 144 billion dinars with national factories producing medicines and the number rose to 400 billion dinars”.
He pointed out that" the number of pharmaceutical factories in Iraq is 23 at present, and there are 43 applications submitted for the establishment of new laboratories in various provinces, 22 laboratories in Baghdad, 6 in Anbar, two laboratories in Salah al-Din, Kirkuk, Basra, Najaf and a laboratory in each of the other provinces”, explaining that "this came against the background of the support of the prime minister, who is following up directly”.
He pointed out that" Prime Minister agreed to allocate 1000 dunums for the establishment of new pharmaceutical factories and the state real estate department will be tasked to allocate it for the establishment of a complex for the production of medicines and medical supplies”, explaining that"4 local companies have started producing medicines for blood diseases and cancer in cooperation with international companies through the transfer of technology in stages”.
He added that " Iraq produces for the first time new local medicines, including 11 types of pressure medications, 8 of which are registered and the other 3 are under registration, and 11 new types of diabetes medications, as one of the local factories began to transfer technology to produce antholin for diabetics”, pointing out that "these medicines will be reflected on The Citizen next year”.
He stressed that" new types of antibiotics will be produced for the first time”, pointing out that "we adopt the best quality and specifications under the American and British Pharmaceutical constitutions”.
He noted that "The citizen will be the biggest beneficiary, as he will find that the local medicine is high quality and at a price not exceeding 25% of the price of current medicines".
