IHEC: A team to electorally support women formed

    The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) announced on Sunday, completing all preparations to organize provincial council elections, while clarifying the tasks of the Women's Electoral Support Team.

     

    Chairman of the Board of Commissioners in the IHEC, Omar Ahmed, said in a speech during an event to train female provincial council candidates in cooperation with the IHEC under the title "Electoral awareness and security and cyber immunity for female provincial council candidates", attended by the reporter of the Iraqi News Agency INA that "The event is meant to implement the electoral awareness program and security and cyber immunity for female candidates for the 2023 provincial council elections," expressing his thanks and praise to the National Security Advisory for supporting the work of the Independent High Electoral Commission, coordinating conferences and programs and electoral workshops, especially with regard to electoral security.”

     

    Ahmed added that "since assuming the office by the current Board of Commissioners, IHEC has paid great attention to women's participation in political life and electoral processes, as the Women's Electoral Support Team has been formed in the Commission, which deals with women's participation in political life by organizing workshops, seminars and conferences for female candidates and voters in coordination with the General Secretariat of the Cabinet and official institutions, in addition to civil society organizations and other activities, and it also attaches special importance to the issue of electoral security, including cyber security, through the Supreme Security Committee for Elections, which includes specialists in this field.”

     

    He indicated that "the significance of this forum lies in providing important information on the electoral law, paragraphs related to the quota for women, precautionary and preventive measures, the protection of candidates, the security of documents and information, in addition to clarifying the procedures for distributing the voter card, the mechanism of public and special voting, manual and electronic counting, the mechanism for submitting complaints and appeals, and the conditions of electoral campaigning.”

     

    He confirmed that "the Independent High Electoral Commission has completed all preparations for organizing the provincial council elections on 18/12/2023, and has taken the necessary measures to ensure its security and integrity in coordination with the relevant official authorities.”
