Following Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani's directives, the Permanent Committee for Pilgrimage, led by Mr. Ihsan Al-Awadi, Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister, convened to discuss the implementation of the sky train project connecting the holy cities of Karbala and Al-Najaf, in line with the government's commitment to support religious events and pilgrimages.

The meeting was attended by the governors of Najaf and Holy Karbala, the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Transport Affairs, and a number of officials and managers concerned with this file.

During the meeting, key project details were reviewed, including its initial technical specifications and proposed routes. The transportation line is anticipated to span 85 kilometers, featuring four passenger-serving stations: Al-Imamin Station, Karbala International Airport Station, Amir Al-Mouminin Station, and Najaf Al-Ashraf International Airport Station.

The preliminary design encompasses a dual-track system for both ascending and descending trains, elevated on bridges above ground level. Ongoing efforts include field survey work and the development of an implementation plan.
