The General Directorate of Intelligence and Security DGIS at the Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday the arrest of a drug dealer in possession of a kilogram of heroin in Dhi Qar, while indicating the arrest of a wanted person on terrorism charges in Maysan.
According to a statement by DGIS, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "the detachments of the Directorate of Intelligence and Security of Maysan affiliated to the General Directorate of Intelligence and Security at the Ministry of Defense, were able to arrest one of the wanted by the judiciary in accordance with the provisions of Article (1/4) terrorism, through his presence in the district of Maymouna, as he was handed over to the competent authorities."
The statement continued, "The detachments of the Directorate of Intelligence and Security of Dhi Qar affiliated with the same directorate were able to arrest one of the dealers and promoters of narcotic substances and seized in possession of (a kilogram) of heroin."
"The arrest came through a tight ambush carried out by the directorate's detachments, in co-ordination with the Narcotics Affairs Division on the road linking Maysan province and al-Rifai district," it said.
