MOI: No "zombie" drug in Iraq, and we did not record cases of abuse

    The Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Affairs in the Ministry of Interior confirmed that the so-called zombie drug was not monitored in Iraq or its users were monitored, while specifying the types of drugs that are seized.

    The directorate's spokesman, Colonel Bilal Sobhi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The directorate did not record the entry of the so-called (zombie) drug into Iraq, which appeared in some regions around the world, or detected infections inside the country.".

    He added, "Iraq is still also one of the countries in which there is no cultivation of any type of drug, which was reached by security operations and the confessions of traffickers and smugglers, which confirm that drugs come from outside Iraq, and on the other hand, an attempt was made to produce Captagon pills inside a factory in Al-Muthanna Governorate, and it was done arrest and apprehend those involved.

    He pointed out, "There are 10 schedules that are dealt with in accordance with Narcotics Law No. 50 of 2017, the first 4 of which include narcotics and the other four are mental indicators, and two schedules of the so-called chemical precursors that represent the raw materials from which these narcotic substances are made.".

    He continued, "There are types that are allowed to be taken as a treatment exclusively within medical prescriptions, and Iraqi law punishes their use without that," noting, "The volume of drug quantities that were seized in the previous period amounted to 3.5 tons, and varied between Captagon and crystal drug, which constitute the largest proportion." Then hashish, opium, heroin and cocaine."
