The General Directorate of Narcotics Affairs at the Ministry of Interior confirmed today, Tuesday, the existence of an integrated database on the ways of entering the narcotic substances into the country, as well as having information on international traffickers who supply them to local dealers.
The Director of Relations and Media at the Directorate, Colonel Bilal Sobhi, said in an exclusive statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "The General Directorate of Narcotics Affairs is working in accordance with Drugs Law No. 50 of 2017, in implementing arrest warrants for dealers, promoters and users of narcotic substances."
He added that "the directorate have an integrated database on the methods, ways and areas of entry of narcotic substances into the country," noting that "most of the substances, especially crystal and hashish, which are spread in central and southern Iraq, come through the provinces of Maysan and Basra."
He also mentioned that "Captagon and other psychotropic substances that spread in western and northern Iraq and come through Anbar province through the desert road, unofficial ports, and through the border strip," noting that "the places of entry for narcotic substances come through the areas adjacent to the borders, and the areas close to it are more likely to abuse drugs".
Sobhi stressed that "drugs are an international organized crime that crosses borders, and that criminal gangs are trying to open a loophole in the border provinces to destroy society and destroy the national economy by introducing narcotic substances," explaining that " specific operations carried out by the Directorate resulted in the arrest of a number of dealers and promoters of narcotics, and that there is seriousness in combating drug crimes.”
He continued, "According to the statistics of the General Directorate of Narcotics Affairs, more than 1,300 accused of drug dealing were arrested last month, in addition to seizing more than 32 kilograms of narcotic substances, reached to 1.117 million Captagon pills and psychotropic substances."
He pointed out that "During the first week of this month, more than 250 drug suspects were arrested, which indicates the seriousness of the Ministry of Interior and the General Directorate of Narcotics Affairs in fighting drug dealers."
Sobhi also affirmed out that "There are local dealers in narcotic substances who are linked to international dealers, confirming that Ministry of Interior has information on the names of dealers inside and outside Iraq," noting that "drug dealers escape from the security forces and hide in the marshes and desert."
