The Security Media Cell SMC announced on Monday that an attempt by a terrorist group to infiltrate the Nimrud district in Nineveh was thwarted.
"Detachments of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service, in coordination with the army units and the Popular Mobilization Forces holding the ground, managed to thwart an attempt by a terrorist group to infiltrate the Nimrud district in Nineveh province," a statement by SMC received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) said.
The statement added, "The operation was based on accurate intelligence information, and a tight ambush supported by technical effort, and after monitoring the group's attempt to infiltrate and pursue it and its attempt to resist and escape, it was directly targeted and one of its members was killed," noting that "the security forces are still conducting a search operation for the rest of the terrorists."
