The Japanese ambassador to Baghdad, Futoshi Matsumoto, revealed that the embassy received a request from the Iraqi government to use Japanese techniques in the field of desalinating sea water and removing the salt tongue in Basra.
"Within the framework of our work in Iraq, we are currently consulting with a number of ministries in various fields," said ambassador Matsumoto in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency - INA, pointing out, "The Iraqi government submitted a request to us about the possibility of obtaining Japanese support in the field of water desalination of the sea and remove the salty tongue.”
"Cooperation between Japan and Iraq in the field of ports extends back to 1974 via its development of Khor Al-Zubair site, which we visited recently," he added, noting that "we discovered the existence of a berth called Mitsubishi, and this represents evidence of our participation in the development of berths in Basra."
He included that, "Japan participated in the development of several new berths in Basra with its support with some shipping and transportation machines," adding, "We always support Iraq to facilitate the export of oil products from the oil fields in the port of Basra."
