Minister of Labor and Social Affairs - MOLSA, Ahmed Al-Asadi, announced Iraq's accession to Convention 102 on minimum standards for social security and the Maritime Labor Convention.
"Al-Asadi met on Wednesday, the Director-General of the International Labor Organization on the sidelines of his participation in the meetings of the International Labor Organization's Board of Directors in the Swiss capital, Geneva," according to a statement by MOLSA received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
Al-Asadi explained, "Iraq is the second country in the region, after Jordan, to accede to Convention 102, as the protocol decrees took place to deliver the instruments of the two conventions to the Director-General of the International Labor Organization."
The joint meeting between the Iraqi delegation, headed by Al-Asadi, and the delegation of the International Labor Organization, included a statement of joint cooperation between the organization and the ministry. It also included an emphasis on the requests and needs confirmed by the ministry, with regard to updating the labor law and assistance in legislating the representative organizations law, in addition to developing the tripartite consultation process.
The meeting highlighted the possibility of developing programs to support people with disabilities, in a way that contributes to their integration into the labor market.
