MOT: International agreement to enhance the financial revenues of Iraq

Ministry of Transport revealed on Wednesday, the advantages of Iraq's accession to the Convention on International Transport of Goods Under Cover of TIR Carnets, noting that its implementation will allow thousands of trucks to enter Iraq and significantly stimulate the economy.

The General Secretariat of the Cabinet agreed on Iraq's accession to the Convention on International Transport of Goods Under Cover of TIR Carnets in Resolution 218 on 2/6/2023, and the Parliament approved Iraq's accession to the agreement was in 2016, and it was published in the Iraqi Gazette, Issue No. 4673 in 2020, according to the media office of the Ministry of Transport statement to the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

The Ministry addressed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the purpose of signing the instrument of accession to the agreement and informing the International Federation of accession, and after signing the instrument, the actual implementation steps will begin. "The ministry is still awaiting the administrative procedures of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs."

"The agreement aims to facilitate international land traffic for transport operators and their agents by facilitating the movement of goods subject to customs seals in a simple and cost-effective system as well as reducing delays at border crossings and the passage of shipping containers and vehicles operating in international trade," included the statement.
