The President of the Republic, Abd al-Latif Jamal Rashid, affirmed on Saturday, that the martyrs are eternal in the memory and conscience of the people.
Rashid said, at the official memorial ceremony on the occasion of the martyrdom of Sayyid Muhammad Baqir al-Hakim, which was attended by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Every year we recall with pain the memory of the martyrdom of His Eminence Ayatollah Sayyid Muhammad Baqir al-Hakim, who was killed by a cowardly terrorist crime, at a time when Iraq was in dire need of the noble merits that the great martyr enjoyed.”
He added, "His Eminence martyred, and with this martyrdom concluded a long journey of jihad for Iraq and for the Iraqi people. His Eminence had a prominent role in the movement of national and religious opposition to dictatorial rule, a recognized role in the continuous work for the unity of the opposition's national action."
He continued, "His role was vital in introducing the world to the suffering of Iraqis under the authority of tyranny, and in the jihadi work to eliminate dictatorship and establish a democratic system that guarantees justice for all."
He also added: " Ayatollah Martyr Muhammad Baqir al-Hakim was keen on the unity of Iraqi national efforts in order to establish a just system in which everyone enjoys freedom and dignity, far from narrow tendencies, and far from marginalization."
President Rashid said :"We, honorable gentlemen, recall the memory of His Eminence's martyrdom, and the memory of all the martyrs who sacrificed, worked, strived, and struggled for a free and just, federal, democratic Iraq."
Rashid also affirmed added, "The martyrs live among us and in the memory and conscience of the people, while the murderers, tyrants, criminals, and terrorists are destined in the ash heap of history. The greatest thing that we can offer to the righteous martyrs is to continue working for the Iraq that enjoys security and stability, in order to enhance the experience of democratic construction, and in order to consolidate and develop the capabilities and potentials of the state in a manner that serves the aspirations of the people.”
