The Iraqi sculptor Ahmed Al-Bahrani expressed his pride in designing the trophy of the Gulf Cup, which has been officially approved since the 17th session held in 2004 in Qatar.
Al-Bahrani said in a statement to (Al-Sabah) newspaper, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), on Tuesday that he designed the trophy of the Gulf Cup after being commissioned by the organizing committee of the competition, which coincided with Iraq's official Iraq’s return to the competition for the first time in more than a decade in 2004, as his vision met with the ideas of the President of The Arab Gulf Cup Football Association- AGCFF, to show the trophy in the most beautiful possible way .
Al-Bahrani added, "The details of the model, which was made in the Italian city of Milan from pure white gold, in the most prominent features of smelting and casting sculptures, the cup takes the shape of a traditional incense burner of a kind used widely in Gulf States in ceremonies and celebrations. On the top, a pearl sits within the map of the region engraved on the trophy's surface. Two shemaghs, chequered white Arab headdresses, are twisted together as if to mend a rift, symbolizing the return of Iraq as tournament hosts, as they wrap around the globe, indicating that his work period lasted (4) months and a half.
Regarding hosting the Gulf Cup tournament in Basra, Al-Bahrani said “it’s distinguished and exceeded all the expectations, especially since it came after a long absence from hosting the Gulf tournaments, which extends to (44) years.
