Minister of Interior, Abd al-Amir, on Tuesday, directed to create a database of drug trafficking networks.
Ministry of Interior-MOI, said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Al-Shammari conducted an inspection visit to the General Directorate for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Control, and held an extensive meeting with its general director and directors of the directorates in Baghdad and the provinces, in which he was briefed on the efforts made by the directorate's cadres to combat drugs trafficking."
Al-Shammari stressed "Drugs are a scourge that must be eradicated and its negative repercussions on society shall be prevented due to its catastrophic effects and consequences on societal peace," affirming "the importance of executing arrest warrants against drug dealers and promoters, as it is a duty that must be fully accomplished."
Al-Shammari also emphasized "Activating the accurate intelligence aspect to pursue and follow up the traffickers of these deadly toxins and those who abuse them, and bring them to justice."
He directed "To create a database base for drug trafficking networks and their promoters and to arrest them as soon as possible, stressing that an evaluation to the Directorate's work will be conducted during the coming period."
For his part, the Director General of Narcotics Control directed "to strengthen efforts at the borders and at border crossings, with coordination with neighboring countries to prevent smuggling narcotic substances, pills and psychotropic substances into the country."
