MOI unveils a two-pronged plan to curb drugs

    Ministry of Interior-MOI-announced on Friday, developing two- pronged plan to curb the spread of drugs, revealing a statistic about the number of suspects in drug abuse and trafficking cases, and the quantities of the seized narcotic substances during the last  9 months.
     
     
    " The Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Control forces exerted their utmost efforts to combat the spread of the drug, as these efforts resulted in the arrest of large numbers of drug users, promoters and traffickers”, The Director of Relations and Media directorate at the Ministry, Major General Saad Maan, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
     
     
    Maan affirmed that "MOI is carrying out awareness and educational campaigns and it is an important member of the Supreme Council for Drug Control headed by the Ministry of Health, and these efforts are continues."
     
    The Director of Relations and Media dept. at the Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Control in the Ministry, Colonel Bilal Sobhi, confirmed to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the Directorate managed, during the past 9 months, to arrest 12,300 accused of drug trafficking, promotion and abuse, as well as seizing 337 kilograms of narcotic substances, including 280 kilograms of the crystal meth." 
     
    He continued, "More than 14 million and 300 thousand Captagon pills and psychotropic substances were also seized," pointing to "the role of citizens in dismantling many drug trafficking networks by calling the hotline of the General Directorate for Drug Control No. 178."
