INSS reveals new details about oil smuggling operations in Basra

    Iraqi National Security Service-INSS revealed on Friday, new details about oil smuggling operations in Basra Governorate.
     
    INSS stated in a statement, about some of the investigations with the crude oil smuggling network in Basra, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "The mission of the smugglers and the officers involved in the file of smuggling crude oil in Basra is to facilitate and protect the movement of tanks and issue telegrams and official notices about the movement."
     
    The statement added, "The amount of money obtained daily from oil smuggling and for one breach only is estimated at (490) million dinars, which is divided among the members of the network."
     
    "The number of suspects in the case of smuggling crude oil in Basra has reached (49) people, including officers, affiliates and smugglers," INSS affirmed.
     
    The statement pointed out that "The theft process for the breach lasts one month, then the same force charged with the protection and involved in the theft reports the breach and then commits another breach in a new place."
     
     
    The statement continued, "The process of smuggling crude oil takes place only at night, and 20-30 tanks are smuggled daily, the load of one tank is changed from (36) thousand liters to (44) thousand liters."
