Al-Sudani issues directives to security leaders in light of the recent events in Diyala and Kirkuk

    Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani issued on Wednesday, directives to security leaders, in light of the recent events in Diyala and Kirkuk.

    The media office of the Prime Minister said, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani, chaired today a security meeting that included the Chief of Staff of the Army, the Deputy Commander of Joint Operations command, and a number of senior security and military leaders from different types of security forces," noting that "the meeting was devoted to discussing the recent security developments in the governorates of Kirkuk and Diyala, which witnessed two terrorist attacks that led to the death and injury of a number of employees of the security services and civilians."


    "Al-Sudani listened to a detailed briefing on the two terrorist incidents, and the military plans put in place to prevent the recurrence of such violations," The statement added.


    The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces stressed that "what happened will not pass without the perpetrators receiving retribution," directing "the military commanders to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the plans drawn up, to change the military tactics used in areas witnessing activities of terrorist remnants, and to adopt non-traditional methods of confrontation, in a manner Which weakens the capabilities of the terrorist elements of ISIS, and limits their movement."


    Al-Sudani directed "all commanders  to be present in the field in the operations sectors, to be close to the officers and their soldiers, to work to raise their military morale, and to stand directly on the plans and their field implementation."


    The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces also directed "the necessity of high coordination between the intelligence agencies, and carrying out qualitative and proactive operations against the enemy wherever it is."
