IMN holds its annual festival to support women

    INA-  BAGHDAD 

    The (Women Empowerment) department of the Iraqi Media Network IMN held its annual festival, coinciding with the launch of the international campaign (16 days to combat violence against women), in the presence of the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Muhammad Salam, and a member of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Marlene Aweish, and a group of Journalists, media professionals and civil activists in the field of women's rights.

     The reporter of the Iraqi News Agency (INA) said: "The festival witnessed the presentation of a theatrical show that was held specifically for the occasion, as well as an artistic market (bazaar) for crafts and handicrafts, and an outdoor exhibition of paintings drawn by a group of Iraqi female painters, as an expression of their rejection of unjustified violence against women.”

    He continued, "The symposium was held under the title (Empowering Women Economically to Stop Violence) by the expert in women's empowerment and protection programs in conflict areas, Nouf Assi, and the journalist in the Women's Empowerment Department, Rajaa Al-Shujairi."

     In turn, the head of the (Women's Empowerment) Department in the Iraqi Media Network, Dr. Israa Al-Attar, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Women's Empowerment Department is keen to highlight the role of the media in alleviating the severity of violence in the country following wars, political conflicts, the impact of the Corona pandemic, and other calamities which affected our society and negatively affected the segment that is always seen as the weakest, which is the woman and the child, while she is the one who establishes security within the first building block of society.

    For her part, the employee in the Women's Empowerment Department, Rajaa Al-Shujairi, explained, "The members of the Women's Empowerment Department were able to coordinate between the Ministries of Youth and Sports and Education in the field of educational activity and the inclusion of a theatrical performance within the festival.  

    In in this concern , the expert in women's empowerment and protection programs in conflict areas, Nouf Assi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "We are all working to stop violence, these days and we see on social media many cases of murder, suicide, human trafficking, child rape and other crimes."

    The United Nations celebrates the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence from November 25 to December 10 each year.
