The Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee revealed on Friday, the possibility of exporting gas from Karbala refinery, while noting that Karbala refinery will provide about 60% of the imported quantities.

"Self-sufficiency in gas will only be achieved with major projects after launching a licensing round to produce the required quantities instead of importing them,"said the deputy head of the committee,MP Ali Al-Mashkour, to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

Al-Mashkour added, "The quantities that are imported from Iran, Qatar, or even from other countries can be easily covered by operating some existing factories or refineries."

"Karbala refinery has operated at its full capacity, and will provide approximately 40-60% of the imported quantities, and finding such solutions will enable Iraq to be in no need of importing, and it will also enable us to achieve surplus quantities that we export," he pointed out.

It’s to be mentioned that Karbala refinery started production last month, and the director of the Karbala refinery, Muhammad Fazaa, had confirmed earlier that the daily liquidation operations would reach up to 140,000 barrels.
