To activate the great port of Al-Faw, MOT trending to link the Railway itinerary with the neighboring countries

    The General Company for Railways, one of the formations of the Ministry of Transport, confirmed today, Thursday, the trend to develop the railway network in Iraq and link it with the neighboring countries.

    The director of the company's worker, Talib Al-Husseini, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the government provided great support for the development of railways, so a contract was signed with an international company to return and submit a feasibility study and designs for the development of the railway network and linking all ports with neighboring countries, in addition to activate the great port of Al-Faw, which will depend on the railways by 44%, which competes with the port of the Suez Canal.

    Al-Husseini added, "The Turkish side has prepared its lands in preparation for the railway connection with Iraq, and there are ongoing discussions and meetings to determine the connection point.".

    Furthermore, he stressed, "The company is moving towards developing a railway network through an Italian company, and we are waiting for it to present the necessary studies and designs to determine the connection point with the Turkish side," noting that "within the terms of the contract, the final version will be presented for preparing studies and designs at the end of this year."
