Kirkuk province confirmed Sunday that it is preparing a plan to rehabilitate archaeological sites in the historical Citadel of Kirkuk, while noting that it is waiting for the launch of allocations for the Food Security Law to complete the rehabilitation of old neighborhoods.
Kirkuk Governor Rakan Saeed Al-Jubouri told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "the province has begun within the budgets of 2019 and 2021 in the rehabilitation of archaeological sites," noting that it is "waiting for the permission of the allocations of the Food Security Law in order to complete the rehabilitation of old neighborhoods that have historical and heritage dimension in the province."
"These neighborhoods and areas surrounding Kirkuk Citadel included expansion projects," Al-Jubouri said, stressing that "a plan to rehabilitate archaeological sites in the historical Kirkuk Citadel is proceeding within the terms of the Ministry of Culture and the State Board of Antiquities."
