German ambassador details the areas of partnership between Baghdad and Berlin and announces the extent of his country's support for Iraq

    The German ambassador to Iraq, Martin Jaeger, detailed the fields of partnership between Baghdad and Berlin, while declaring the extent of his country's support for Iraq.
    Ambassador Jaeger said, in a seminar on Iraqi-German relations, challenges and opportunities, which was attended by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) correspondent, that "there is a clear development in relations and partnership between Iraq and Germany," adding, "We owe it to the Iraqi ambassador in Germany, to improve relations and bring views closer."
    "Iraq has a large financial base and is different from the countries close to it and has special resources," noting that "Iraq has 85 million euros, and this compares to a full treasury for any future government." Jaeger added.
    He continued, "We must to consider the challenges which facing real reforms and take into consideration the report of the resigned Finance Minister Ali Allawi on the challenges facing Iraq's economy," adding that, "I visited 18 Iraqi governorates, and during our visit to Dhi Qar, we focused on the marshes that were greatly affected by climate change."
    "There is a lot of work that the government needs to work on in terms of infrastructure and it has the funds that enable it to complete those works," noting that "German-Iraqi relations are strong, especially cultural ones, due to the presence of cooperation between German researchers who discovered the city of Uruk and other discoveries and antiquities, as well as military cooperation. Jaeger added.
    He explained, "Germany contributed 3.4 billion euros to the development of Iraq, and we are the second largest supporter of Iraq."
    "We supported Iraq in reconstruction, focused on the liberated areas, and contributed to the return of the displaced by 4 million and 800 thousand displaced people, which is one of the most important achievements to achieve development." Jaeger said.
    He pointed out that "Germany aspires to work with the Iraqi government through  supporting it in various sectors."
    He pointed out that "Germany has contributed to helping Iraq in the fight against terrorism, climate change and water resources," noting that "Germany has 600 million euros as projects in Al-Muthanna Governorate to support water resources, and we look forward to signing the agreement with the new minister in the next government."
