Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi stressed on Wednesday that the city of Mosul is a model of Iraqi coexistence and diversity, which we consider an element of strength, while pointing to the imminent starting of the project for the reconstruction of the Nouri Mosque.

Al-Kadhimi said during the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the rehabilitation project of Mosul International Airport in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the project of Mosul International Airport is a strategic and important project for the people of the province, and we lay the foundation stone for it today," noting that "the airport will provide job opportunities, facilitate transportation, and facilitate the lives of citizens."

He praised "the efforts of the workers who worked and exerted their forces for the reconstruction and planning of Nineveh province," directing "his thanks for the exceptional efforts made by the government, the Minister of Reconstruction and Housing, and the Minister of Planning."

He added, "Thanks go to our brothers in Nineveh province, the reconstruction committee formed last year to follow up on the projects of the province, the Mosul notables council that has always alerted the government to some of the observations we have been making, as well as all the sheikhs and sons of this province who worked to deliver a real and good picture of the province and all of Iraq."

He praised, "the armed forces, the army, the Popular Mobilization, the Peshmerga, the Counter-Terrorism Service, and the security services that worked hard to liberate the region from terrorist groups and gangs," noting that "the city of Mosul is a model of Iraqi coexistence and diversity, which we consider an element of strength, a model of tolerance that proves that Iraq has a lot of human capabilities and competencies in this province, which is good with its people and history.”

Al-Kadhimi added that "the city of Mosul has suffered a lot from the policies of confusion, terrorism and poor planning, and that what happened in the past will not be repeated, neither in Mosul, nor in Nineveh, nor in the whole of Iraq," explaining that "there are tremendous efforts being made daily, for reconstruction and I follow them personally."

"Following up on the details of the challenges and overcoming them, in order to send a message that Iraqis deserve life, and that they are able to turn challenges into opportunities for success," he said, stressing the need to "praise other projects witnessed by the province, and soon we will come to open the project of reconstruction of Al-Nouri Mosque, this important mosque and located in the conscience of the people of the province and all Iraqis."

"International organizations, UNESCO have worked in cooperation with the Advisory Office of the University of Mosul, and it is hoped that this project will be completed in the near future," he said, noting "the need for integration and cooperation of all, in order to awaken energies and build an Iraq worthy of Iraqis, and these efforts will not be lost, and we will not allow corrupt people to exploit these projects to waste the people's money."

He stressed, "The result of anyone who tries to tamper with these projects for personal interests or for the sake of gangs and corrupt people will be the same as the fate of the terrorists who tried to destroy this city," explaining, "We have worked since the first day to take care of this province and the entire provinces of Iraq, despite all the challenges that the government is going through, whether they are economic, political, or security challenges.”

"We succeeded in crossing the economic challenge as well as the security challenge," al-Kadhimi said, calling on political blocs to "shoulder their responsibilities by resolving the issue of political deadlock for the benefit of Iraq and its future."

Al-Kadhimi expressed his hope that "everyone will work with all force to resolve the political impasse and resort to dialogue to resolve differences," explaining that "we have no choice but dialogue for a thousand years, better than the moment we collide with it as Iraqis."

Al-Kadhimi stressed the need to "work together and hand in hand for the sake of our children, grandchildren, and history."
