The head of the regional Diwan sets date for parliamentary elections in Kurdistan

    The Chief of Staff of the Kurdistan Region Presidency, Fawzi Hariri, revealed today, Monday, an upcoming meeting of the Kurdish parties, in the presence of the head of the United Nations Mission in Iraq, Jenin Plasschaert, while he disclosed the reasons for not holding the parliamentary elections on schedule. 

     

    Hariri said, in a statement that "a meeting will be held next Wednesday for the Kurdish parties in Erbil, at the invitation of the President of the Region, Nechirvan Barzani, and in the presence of the head of the United Nations mission in Iraq, Jenin Plasschaert."

     

    He pointed out, "The meeting will address the legal benefits of the Kurdistan elections and solving problems," noting that "the meeting will complement the previous meeting, and there is confidence that it will be satisfactory to all by 100 percent."

     

    Hariri added, "Iraq is going through a situation in which real problems are facing the authorities, and there are commitments and timings regarding the Kurdistan elections, and a date has been set for conducted it, but the reservations of some Kurdish parties prevented conducted it."

     

    And he stressed, "If it is agreed in a meeting the day after tomorrow to hold parliamentary elections, the commission will not be able to hold it on the date approved by the presidency of the region due to lack of time, and it is hoped that it will be held in the first quarter of next year."
