Defense Minister Juma Inad revealed on Sunday, the imminent arrival of advanced American radars for long-range detection, and efforts to contract a radar system for low and medium detection.
Inad said, during a ceremony laying the foundation stone for the Air Defense Command Operations Center, which was attended by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the new main operations center of the Air Defense Command will be an edifice of the Iraqi army and has a great service in the Air Defense Operations Command."
He pointed out that "the center will be linked to the new radar system, which was contracted and imported from the French company Thales," stressing that "this system will work on high detection of hostile air targets, and will be installed in different places in the country."
He pointed out that "the center will work in conjunction with the arrival of the new American radar system, type TBS 77," noting that "this system is the first link to develop the air defense command and bring it to the highest levels of readiness and combat readiness to secure air control over all Iraqi airspace, as it is specific to radar detection long-term".
Inad stressed, "The ministry's efforts to obtain a radar system that works on low and medium detection to complete air sovereignty over all parts of the country."
