    INA – BAGHDAD

Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday, the ongoing follow-up tours in 3 provinces to prevent the spread of hemorrhagic fever - VHFs.

"The tours came under the guidance of the Minister of Health to follow up on the work of health departments during Eid period as the health services were reviewed and we headed to Al Hussein Hospital in Dhi Qar to follow up the priority and it is hemorrhagic fever, because the number in it reaches 70% of the total cases in the country,'' said the Director of Public Health, Abdul Amir Al-Hilfi in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency – INA.

He added, "The tours included Dhi Qar, Basra and Maysan, while the cases in Dhi Qar reached 21, and the deaths are four," stressing that "there are only 3 cases in the hospital, and they were examined, as they are stable and good for they have overcame the danger,''.

Al-Hilfi expressed about "the veterinary and internal procedures, as they were weak and pesticides were not sprayed in the animal pens, which is a basic measure among the preventive measures to prevent the transmission of disease from animals, whether inside or outside Dhi Qar,''.

"This led to the spread of the disease in other provinces," he said, noting that "if the Ministries of Interior and Agriculture and the Veterinary Directorate do not take the required measures, these cases will increase,''.

He pointed out that "recording 30 cases has not reached us since the first appearance of the disease in the seventies," noting that "we may witness an increase in cases in the coming days, because the insect that transmits the disease is more active in the summer season,."

"The death rate in Corona worldwide has reached 1%, but this disease has a death rate between 30% to 50%, and hence comes the importance of preventive measures,'' he explained.

He included that "the procedures do not cost a lot of money in terms of veterinarians, and they need 100 million dinars for campaigns and dusting,''.
