Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein confirmed that Iraq is pursuing the principle of de-escalation.
Hussein met with the US Special Envoy for Iran Affairs Robert Malley, on the sidelines of his participation in the Doha Forum in its 20th edition," according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received by the Iraqi News Agency – INA.
During the meeting, they discussed political and security developments in the region and its repercussions, as well as the reality of US-Iranian relations, and ways to activate the exploratory dialogues that took place previously, as they touched on the ongoing negotiations in Vienna and the five countries + one.
Hussein stressed the "importance of enhancing stability and introducing coordination opportunities and mechanisms," noting that "Iraq follows the principle of de-escalation and the consequent interests of all parties, as it is reflected on security and peace in the neighborhood of Iraq and the region,"
For his part, Robert Malley confirmed that "the course of the talks was good, and there are some other issues that are on the table," expressing his thanks "for the role that Iraq plays in this field,"
