Governmental efforts to declare 4 new areas as nature reserves

    The Ministry of Environment announced Monday, the movement to declare 4 Iraqi areas as nature reserves, indicating that this step aims to preserve biological diversity.
     
    The Minister of Environment, Jassem Al-Falahi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "The ministry intends to announce four areas in Anbar province as nature reserves," noting that "These areas are in the process of preparing to be presented to the National Committee for Reserves."
     
     
    He pointed out that " The National Committee for Reserves includes several relevant ministries and civil society organizations," noting that "The climate of Iraq is characterized by environmental diversity between the desert in Badia and the humid and plain environment in the north, center and south of the country, which gives importance to the ecosystem in Iraq."
     
    He explained, "The reserves are divided into natural and international, for example, the Iraqi city of the marshes has emerged from being a national heritage and has become a human heritage," noting that "the announcement of nature reserves aims to preserve biodiversity and the characteristics of the region due to its special ecosystem."
     
    Al-Falahi added, "The mine affairs program is working to clean the reserves after they were a battlefield for 8 years," stressing that "there is real work on sustainable development in those areas, in order to achieve an economic reflection through the projects that will be established in the future."
