INA – BAGHDAD
Minister of Youth and Sports and the President of the Iraqi Football Association Adnan Darjal decided on Monday, the national team’s position on boycotting World Cup qualifiers 2022 in Qatar, after the transfer of Iraq-UAE match.
"We did not think about the decision to boycott World Cup qualifiers 2022 at all , and the decision to transfer the Iraq-UAE match was taken by the International Federation and the Asian Federation, as we do not want to complicate matters further," said Darjal.
He added, "Our withdrawal from the tournament will provide the opportunity to lose points to the UAE national team and at the same time will not solve the problem. Therefore, we might be exposed to penalties that we do not need at the moment,"
"One of the reasons for the complaint that we will file to Al-Kas Court is our rejection on this decision, and it should not affect the ongoing lifting of the ban on Iraqi and Baghdad stadiums," he included.
