A recent study said that the best breakfast is the one that provides 20% to 30% of the energy the body needs throughout the day.

Researchers noted that eating less or more food increases some cardiometabolic risk factors in older adults.

Food quality is also important, as poor quality can lead to a potential increase in several measures of cardiometabolic risk, according to Medical News Today.

The study was conducted at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute in Spain using data from a trial of 383 individuals aged 55 to 75.
All were overweight or obese, had at least three markers of metabolic syndrome, and were followed for three years.

At the end of the study, those who consumed less than 20% or more than 30% of their daily calories at breakfast had greater weight gain and waist circumference than those who got the recommended amount.

They also had significantly higher levels of triglycerides and lower levels of good cholesterol than those who consumed 20-30% of their energy at the start of the day.
