Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein stressed on Monday, during his meeting with members of the US Senate and Representatives, the need to support the evolved democracy in Iraq.
Hussein met with a large delegation of US Senators and Representatives as well as, the Republican and Democratic parties, headed by Senator Lindsey Graham, in addition to Senator Yanni Shaheen, Chris Van Hollen, Elissa Slotkin, Joe Liebermann, and other members on the sidelines of the 58th Munich Security Conference held in Munich, Germany, according to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Ahmed Al-Sahaf, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
He added that the dialogue focused during the meeting on a number of pivotal topics, including the need to support the evolving democracy in Iraq, the efforts of political parties and leaders in forming the new Iraqi government, in addition to the importance of supporting the Iraqi government's role in its foreign policy aimed at creating understandings in the region by dialogues and negotiations on violence, as well as discussing the bilateral relations between the United States and Iraq including the future.
”The Foreign Minister stressed the importance of negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America in addition to other countries to reach a solution to the Iranian nuclear file, because the tension in their relations will negatively affect the security and political situation in Iraq and the region,” he noted, indicating that ”achieving any success in this the framework will positively affect the establishment of the pillars of stability in the region, including Iraq,”
