Dhi Qar Antiquities Directorate announced the allocation of 900 acres to build the tourist city of Ur, describing it as the largest in the Middle East, while explaining its details.
Director of Dhi Qar Antiquities, Amer Abdul Razzaq, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "900 acres have been allocated to build the tourist city of Ur, which will be one of the largest tourist cities in the Middle East, as the land adjacent to it has been allocated and maps and designs have been drawn up to implement this great project." He stressed that "the project includes heritage markets, visitor centers, rest houses, hotels, dialogue centers, research centers and stores for selling souvenirs."
He added, "The Ur International Museum will be established near the city and will be dedicated to the city's archaeological and Mesopotamia collectibles, and this will provide job opportunities and employ a lot of manpower," noting that "there will be a (metro) to transport tourists from the city of Ur to the marshes, and it will be designed by an Italian company."
Abdul Razzaq stressed that "there are no obstacles, but we need greater financial allocations for these projects," explaining that "the General Secretariat allocated 19 billion dinars, and Dhi Qar Reconstruction Fund allocated 11 billion, but we need other amounts."
