The Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Diab, confirmed on Saturday that the rainfall over the Euphrates basin will contribute to an increase in water releases, and he noted that the current water releases to the Euphrates are better than anticipated.
In an interview with the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Diab stated, "Iraq relies on approximately 70% of its water supply from external sources, but the intelligent management of water resources will contribute to achieving positive results."
He added, "We expect an increase in water releases and rainfall in the coming days, especially in January, which will help replenish reservoirs with water."
He also highlighted that the ministry is continuously monitoring weather forecasts and the expected rainfall to align plans with Iraq's water storage needs.
Diab emphasized, "The ministry will cooperate with all parties regarding water issues and Iraq's share. The water releases to the Euphrates are currently good and better than expected."
He further stated, "We anticipate rain in the Euphrates basin in the coming days, which will significantly contribute to increasing water releases, both from the Turkish-Syrian border and from the Tabaqa Dam, which is in good condition and has a solid water reserve."
