Two missions from the British Museum have visited the province, the Dhi Qar Antiquities Inspectorate said Friday.
"Two missions from the British Museum visited Dhi Qar province, the first was the Mission of Kerso, which visited the site of (Tilu) in Al-Nasr district, and the second mission visited the site (Tel Kabiba) in Al-Rifai district," director of the Antiquities Inspectorate of Dhi Qar Amer Abdul Razzaq told the Iraqi News Agency, noting that "These missions are important and are shared with prospectors from each mission who use modern equipment for excavation, where important buildings and temples have been discovered in the city of (Tilu)."
"These missions will provide a lot of manpower as well as job opportunities in the region," he said, adding that "any traces discovered are handed over to the Iraqi Museum in Baghdad."
"Dhi Qar province has seen dozens of missions and this is the third mission in a week, and there are also three missions coming next week," he said, adding that "there is continuous and ongoing work to be a tourist and archaeological province not only in Iraq but in the Middle East."
"There is assistance and guidance from the Director General of the Department of Investigations and Excavations in the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities in supporting antiquities and tourism in Dhi Qar province," he said.
