Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities announced today, Monday, inscribing Zubaydah Trail on the UNESCO World Heritage tentative list.
The Ministry said in a statement, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that it had "succeeded in including Zubaydah trail on the tentative list of UNESCO's World Heritage."
"UNESCO has included the ancient pilgrimage route known as (Darb Zubaydah) on the tentative list of the World Heritage after intensive efforts by the specialized team in the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities," noting that "a joint file with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as each country has registered four archaeological sites on each side on the historical route that linked the city of Kufa to Makkah al-Mukarramah", the statement added.
The statement also affirmed that “The Iraqi sites included in the UNESCO World Heritage tentative list file are: Umm al-Qarun Station, Talhat Station, Sharaf Station, and Aqaba Border Station, and the work is still going from both parties to prepare the nomination file.
