President Barham Salih made a phone call with Ms. Audrey Azoulay, the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in which His Excellency has emphasized the mobilization of support to ensure the voting for Iraq to inscribe Babylon antiquities on the World Heritage List
In order to expedite the completion of this dossier and achieve the desired result, the President will communicate with the Heads of the Member States of the competent committee in this regard and in coordination with the Ministry of Culture and the Governor of Babil.
The phone call also touched on the Organization’s efforts in the reconstruction of Mosul, notably the heritage sites in the city.
The President commended the International Organization’s role in supporting Iraq and adopting the dossiers of inscribing the country’s antiquities and historical sites on the list.
President Salih invited Ms. Azoulay to visit Iraq. Ms. Azoulay expressed her thanks and happiness for the invitation and she promised to meet it.
The UNESCO Director emphasized her support for Iraq's efforts to inscribe the country’s antiquities on the Heritage List.
She also reviewed the Organization’s role in the process of reconstruction of cities which were exposed to destruction by the terrorist gangs of Daesh.
