Baghdad-INA
Minister of Electricity Adel Karim said Tuesday that the link-up with Saudi Arabia would be completed within two years.
"The Iraqi market is open to Saudi companies," Karim said during the signing of a memorandum of understanding for electrical link-up with the Saudi energy minister, attended by a reporter from the Iraqi news agency INA.
For his part, Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdul Aziz bin Salman al-Saud said that "what connects Saudi Arabia to Iraq is greater than electricity and there is blood, social ties, a common history and a common presence between Iraqi families and Saudi Arabia," adding: "It is a shame that we do not mention the cooperation of the Iraqi government with regard to oil and gas cooperation, which is historically the most successful."
"This memorandum came in accordance with a full study between the two countries regarding the project of electricity interconnection between the two countries, economic returns and the entry of renewable energy, in addition to the two countries' gain in promoting a market for the construction of electricity between the two countries," he said.
