Directorate for Mine Actions confirmed on Sunday that it was conducting surveys on the Rumaila site in Zubair, Basra province, in connection with the Rumaila incident, which killed a number of citizens and injured others last week.
“Directorate for Mine Actions /Southern Regional Center has commissioned DRC organization to conduct technical surveys at the Rumaila incident site in Zubair district in Basra province to verify the extent of the contamination of the site," the directorate said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
"An official delegation from the Directorate for Mine Actions visited the scene in Rumaila, with the participation of DDG/DRC in Basra, to conduct technical surveys, under the guidance of the Southern Regional Centre of the Mine Affairs Department," the statement said.
The Rumaila area witnessed a projectile explosion that killed a number of citizens and injured others last week.
