Joint Operations Command confirmed on Saturday, the ability of the Iraqi forces to combat terrorism without the need for international ground support, while it identified a direct reason for the continued request for support of the international coalition in the areas of air strikes, training and advice as it confirmed the existence of plans to increase the number of Iraqi security forces.

"We started a year and a half ago to take over the Iraqi military bases that were occupied by the international coalition, and the Iraqi government's confidence in the forces that received those camps is very high, and they are performing the duty from that time with high efficiency,” said Major General Tahsin Al-Khafaji, spokesman for the Joint Operations Command of Al-Iraqiya News, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

He added, "The security forces currently have the ability to combat terrorism, and they are the ones who stood in the field, carry out combat operations and air support. Our forces do not need international combat ground support, but rather need support in the field of reconnaissance and intelligence information, which is ongoing,”

"The need for the international coalition's aviation is when there is a necessity that needs capabilities higher than the Iraqis', and the Iraqi air force has capabilities, but it needs to develop, equipment and high capabilities to raise the level of this important regard," he noted.

Al-Khafaji stressed that "the aim of requesting continued support from the international coalition in the fields of air strikes, training, development and intelligence information is to keep Iraqi forces on a high level of readiness to pursue terrorism and strike its remnants,”

Regarding the current need to increase the number of security forces of all kinds, Al-Khafaji explained that "there is no need to put in place a sufficiency mechanism, but we need to continuously strengthen these forces with additional numbers to renew and develop them and raise their capabilities for two important reasons, age and injury,”
