President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid congratulated General Joseph Aoun on his election as President of the Lebanese Republic today, Friday.
A statement by the Presidency of the Republic received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): stated that "President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid made a phone call with Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun on the occasion of his election as President of the Lebanese Republic."
During the phone call, the President expressed his "wishes to President Joseph Aoun for success and good luck, and to the brotherly Lebanese people for more stability, progress and prosperity."
The President of the Republic pointed out according to the statement "the importance of strengthening relations between the two countries and developing mutual cooperation and coordination, in a way that serves the common interests of the Iraqi and Lebanese peoples," stressing "Iraq's firm position towards Lebanon in supporting everything that preserves its security, stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity and achieves the interests of its people."
In turn, the Lebanese President expressed his "thanks and gratitude for the phone call and the good feelings of the President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid," stressing his "keenness to strengthen relations between the two countries and the two brotherly peoples in areas of common interest."
