Oil: Four international companies have begun preparing energy purchase and electrical interconnection memoranda

     The Ministry of Oil announced today Tuesday, that 4 international companies have started preparing energy purchase memoranda and technical linking to the electrical network in Iraq, and while it revealed several projects to increase the levels of electrical energy production, it confirmed that work is underway on renewable energy projects.
     
    Adviser to the Minister of Oil for Energy Affairs, Abdul Baqi Khalaf, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "there is a continuous review by the government and the Ministerial Council of the energy situation since the beginning of this year," noting that "the plans of the Ministerial Council are to add clean and renewable energy by 12 kilowatts of solar energy through contracts with reputable and important companies.”
     
    Khalaf added, "Four international companies have started procedures with the Ministry of Electricity in preparing energy purchase memoranda, technical connection to the electrical network, field study and site surveys to establish projects," stressing that "work is underway on renewable energy projects."
     
    He pointed out that "Iraq has actually contracted with the French company Total Energy,  Masdar Company and the Power China Company within the 2000 megawatt project, and there are projects through the Investment Authority in which the first procedures have taken place and now is in the process of contracting with the Norwegian company Scatec in addition to that there are more than one contract and project under the plan and other projects are under discussion.
     
    He pointed out that "the projects, upon completion, will add 7,000 megawatts to the electrical network by 2026 if the plan goes as planned."
