The security media cell announced Tuesday the arrest of a suspect impersonating an officer who deceived citizens in Basra.
"The Federal Intelligence and Investigations Agency continues its security operations to prosecute outlaws, follow up on the felons of organized crime and arrest anyone who deceive citizens, as it was able, in a tight ambush, to arrest an accused who impersonates an officer of the rank of lieutenant colonel in the prime minister's office," the cell said in a statement, adding that "The accused was defrauding citizens in Basra.”
"During his interrogation, the accused openly admitted that he had impersonated an officer and that he was defrauding citizens and taking money under the pretext of appointing them to the Basra Oil Company," the statement said.
"The defendant's statements were certified by confession, as some of his victims have been recorded, and the investigating judge has decided to refer him to the competent courts to get his fair punishment in accordance with the law," the statement said.
