Pfizer CEO Albert Burla predicted that people will likely need an annual vaccination against the Corona virus for several years to come.
Burla said he believed this would be required to maintain a "very high level of protection".
Pfizer is working on developing its vaccine to suit the Omicron mutant, which is causing concern around the world, and the modified vaccine may be ready within a hundred days.
Burla told the BBC that vaccines helped save millions of lives during the pandemic, and without them, "the infrastructure of our society may be under threat".
By the end of this year, Pfizer expects its vaccine production to have reached three billion doses, and plans to produce four billion doses in the new year.
The CEO of the company said that there has been an international race to protect people during the last period, but in 2022, countries will have all the quantities they need.
