MOFA reveals the number of migrants stranded at the Belarusian border

    The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, revealed on Friday, the number of migrants stranded on the Belarusian border. 

    Ministry spokesman Ahmed Al-Sahaf said in a press statement followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been following the developments of the Iraqi immigrant file since mid-June 2021, and Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein has made extensive contacts with his counterparts in the European Union and received a number of them in Baghdad, Noting, "the need to achieve a national response to provide security and safety for Iraqi migrants and to cut the way for smuggling and human trafficking networks, which were involved in these risks," 

    adding that "the ministry instructed the embassies of the Republic of Iraq in Moscow and Warsaw to dispatch diplomatic teams to the whereabouts of migrants and to provide them with the necessary support and coordination. with the authorities in Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland. 

    He added, "The ministry has been keen recently, with the escalation of immigration, to coordinate urgently with national authorities and take the initiative, and has so far succeeded in returning the migrants within exceptional evacuation flights and through efforts coordinated by the ministry with Iraqi Airways, and it was among the first (431), second (176) and third flights. 

    (435), the fourth will be this evening (431), and the fifth will be tomorrow, and it will be transported (430), so that the total of the voluntary returnees (1894).”. 

    He explained that "the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is continuing its promised efforts to complete the path of voluntary return, in order to provide the highest possible response to the security and safety of migrants."
