The Lebanese Ministry of Education vowed on Thursday to pursue counterfeiters certificates of Iraqi students and universities in the event of proven fraud.

The Lebanese Minister of Education and Higher Education Abbas Al-Halabi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "falsifying diplomas is a criminal offense that the ministry can prosecute, in addition to disciplinary penalties that include financial fines, which amount to closing the complicit university and not recognizing it.".

He stressed that "the student, the university, and the mediator (the broker) will be prosecuted legally if the process of forging certificates is proven," considering that "it is not acceptable to compromise the reputation of Lebanese universities and their prestigious certificates.".

Lebanese private universities have exceeded the internationally recognized number of graduate studies seats, as they exceed 27 thousand Iraqi seats.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research issued an official decision to suspend studies in the following three Lebanese universities: (Modern University of Management and Science, Islamic University of Lebanon, and University of Jinan) for not adhering to the standards of scientific sobriety in accordance with a law based on the equivalence of Arab and foreign certificates and degrees.
