The Ministry of Oil clarified the details of the Nasiriyah field development project with a capacity of 600,000 barrels per day.
The ministry stated, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the Council of Ministers decided, in its session today, to authorize the Iraqi National Oil Company to negotiate directly with the American company Chevron to develop oil fields in Dhi Qar Governorate, through the implementation of a project Nasiriyah Province for oil and gas production, which includes the development of four exploration areas in the province.
The statement added, "The project forming an important addition that contributes to strengthening and sustaining national production in support of the national economy and sustainable development projects directed by the government and the ministry," noting that "the ministry's plan in Dhi Qar Governorate includes the completion of a group of giant projects in the oil, gas and water injection sectors, with energy targeted of 600,000 barrels of crude oil per day within seven years of starting work, and may be followed later by the establishment of solar energy projects to produce electricity.
He added, "It is hoped that these projects will contribute to strengthening and sustaining national production, advancing and developing infrastructure, increasing development opportunities for private sector companies in the governorate, as well as providing job opportunities."
